August 2026: Phil Ivins retires as Treasurer

After more than 35 years as Treasurer, Phil Ivins has retired from the Friends for a well earned rest. He became Treasurer of the Friends at a time when traditionally this role has held by local Barclays bank managers. Do you remember the days, when banks had branches in the town and we all had proper bank managers?

The Friends owe Phil a huge debt of gratitude for his unstinting work over the years in one of the less glamorous but very much needed roles in a charity. Phil knew everyone in the town and had seen many changes both in the Friends, from the days when we ran the Christmas Tree Festival and St Peter’s was open most days, up to now when St Peter’s is run on a day to day basis by the Churches Conservation Trust. Phil was always there to help and we are all very grateful for everything he did for St Peter’s.

Phil has handed over the baton of Treasurer to Peter Upson, one of our trustees.
